First Book Friday!
First Book had another exciting week! Here is what happened in our world…
13,000 people in “Oprah’s Surprise Spectacular” show audience this past Monday held up a children’s book to be donated to a child in need through First Book in tribute to Ms. Winfrey’s legacy. Thanks to the audience’s generosity, more than 25,000 new books in total will be given to children in low-income communities throughout the country, including a donation of over 1,100 books for the children at KIPP Believe College Preparatory Academy in New Orleans, the school that was featured in the broadcast.
WJLA Channel 7 did a great piece on First Book’s work with the Oprah show.
First Book participated in the annual Book Expo America (BEA) in New York City this week. We were the beneficiaries of the live James Patterson / Rick Riordon event at Lincoln Center. In case you missed the live-streaming, you can watch it archived online at http://www.rickandjameslive.com. All ticket sales went to benefit First Book!
