First Book Canada Receives $20,000 Donation From Canadian Music Producer

TORONTO, Ontario (June 28, 2018) – On Friday June 15, First Book Canada received a $20,000 USD donation from Canadian producer Shane Lindstrom, known as Murda Beatz in the hip-hop industry. Lindstrom competed in the first Fortnite Pro Am in Los Angeles on June 12, where he won the money, and has donated it through Norm Kelly’s XpandLaces campaign in support of First Book Canada. First Book Canada is honoured to be the recipient of this generous donation, which will go to providing access to books and educational resources for children and youth over the summer.

“The remarkable donation from Murda Beatz comes at the perfect time for First Book Canada. With summer finally here, we know that thousands of Canadian children go through the summer months without any books. Reading at home often comes to a complete standstill for far too many kids from high-needs communities,” Tom Best, Executive Director of First Book Canada said today. “We are thrilled to have Shane Lindstrom collaborating with First Book Canada and Councillor Norm Kelly to bring more books to kids who really need them. Murda Beatz is leading a new generation of hip-hop artists who are truly making a difference in our society.”
